Review: Julep Plie Wand

lilpeedee has shared her honest review of the Julep Plie Wand, this is her review:

Julep Plie wand

Wand, Striping brush, regular brush, dotting tool. (I did not clean my dotting tool before taking this pic, sorry!)

Can bend in different angles

End of the tools

They have a magnetic thing that clips onto the main wand.

With brush attached.

How it looks in the hand.

Another possible position

My first attempt at dotting.

Just to clarify, this was my dominant hand. I could not get the non dominant hand to come out in the pic. I did not do any clean up here. (I also smeared one of the dots with the top coat)

Review

got this as a surprise package the other day from a friend and it was so intriguing I thought I would share my thoughts. I did not know this product existed and I have never used Julep polish before or else I might have known about this fancy little wand. This wand is supposed to make it more comfortable to do your polish, as well as make your non dominant hand more stable when you have to paint the other hand.

It comes with a wand with a magnet on the end and three attachments, a precision brush, a striping brush, and a dotting tool. I think it sells on the Julep website for $25. There may be some kind of member discount but as I don’t use their polish I am not sure. It is made to be able to snap easily onto Julep polishes specifically, but can be used with others without too much trouble. It does kind of make me want some Julep to see how it all goes together.

I have used this twice now and there is definitely a bit of a learning curve. I like the way if feels in the hand and is kind of like writing with a pen. With other polish bottles, there are so many different brush handles and some of them are too small or too big and cumbersome, this gives you a nice shape and feel to the handle every time. The length gives you much more stability because it rests on the back of your hand a bit. I have not gotten the hang of using it bent. I tried a couple of positions and ended up using it straight for both hands, but I watched a how-to video on Julep’s website which gave more position suggestions that I will try.

It is a bit inconvenient to have to clean it up after each use. I made the dumb mistake of trying to clean it with a cotton ball and remover and got little cotton turds all over the wand. It is much better to use a nail polish remover wipe and then stick the wand and brush in and twist it around to clean. (learning curve)

I used the dotting tool for the first time today. (I have never used any dotting tools before this) At first I was sticking the tool into the polish bottle and getting irritated that it was not long enough to reach the polish. I had to tilt the bottle to get some on the tip. Then when I watched the how-to video I saw that they put some polish on a little plate and then dipped the tool into that. Derp. I guess this is how you do it for any kind of dotting tool? Will do that for the next round.

I have not tried the narrow striping brush yet. It says you can do a french manicure or just make stripes with it, will give that a shot another day. All in all it is pretty cool, I like the feel and I think it makes the process overall easier. I need to get used to the angles to find just the right one for my non dominant hand. I don’t think I would ever have purchased this for myself, and it is kind of pricey for what it is, but I am glad I have it.

The last pic in the album is the look I did today. I did not do any clean up so you can see I got a decent application and not much polish all over my fingers. I messed up the dots a bit with the top coat but that was my bad. Also I should have chosen colors that were more drastically different from each other for a better effect, but I think its cute.
