Sad to say but a lot of people were dissapointed with the new MAC Maleficent Collection. Unlike the Rihanna collection which sold out within minutes, the MAC Maleficent Collection was a slow-sell in comparison to the celebrity line.

If you were expecting some greens, wednesday_addams_ explains it: “As a MAC artist, I go to update every quarter to learn about each collection before it comes out. Believe me- the Maleficent collection was anything but rushed. The collection was in production the same amount of time that the movie was in production- and Angelina Jolie was directly involved with the entire making of this collection. MAC artists/MAC were on set and directly working with the makeup department for this movie. The collection wasn’t meant to have greens, purples, ect… The collection is actually the exact representation of the colours and products used on Angelina Jolie to create Maleficent. Also, I saw someone say that there should have been a contour kit. There’s a sculpting powder in this kit which is a MAC Pro product which is used for contouring. Also, the image used for this MAC collection is also the same image used for the movie poster. Not because MAC just decided to use it but because MAC created it- if that tells you anything about why this collection is the way it is.”
Why there isn’t more than just bare-bones red lips, contoured skin, and sculpted eyes is probably because that’s the look Maleficent has in the movie, now that I think of it. It’s not the most exciting tie-in, but it’s accurate. and If you take out the heavy contouring and the spooky green contacts, the makeup look for Maleficent is well… average. And that’s what you get with the MAC Maleficent collection. A nice red shade for lips, some neutral eyeshadow, but nothing over the top or scandalous.
My personal opinion is that I wish the packaging would have been different. I don’t know Maleficent for the bat wings. When I think of bat wings, I think of Batman. But you know what I know Maleficent for? What’s on every movie poster? Her Horns.
can you imagine if every bat wing was replaced by horns?
movie or cartoon, no one ever really paid attention to her wings, it was all about the horns…
and that’s why the MAC Maleficent collection bombed.
