So I bought Essie Carry On over a year ago on Amazon, and somehow only now I’m posting a Swatch & Review. 😛 Just painted my nails again with “Carry On”, and yes, we are in the middle of July, but its hard to resist this bold burgundy shade. This mani is VAMP. With a capital V. A perfect, gorgeous brownish plum color that is just perfect for the Fall but can be worn on any night on the town…
Review
Essie overall has great formulas, and this is a good formula though it can be improved on the. The brush is on the thin side which I don’t mind, but this shade is streaky at one coat. You will need a few coats to get an opaque color. But once opaque, its an amazing shade. I love the rich plum, it makes the finished manicure look very sultry. And though I admit that it is a bit too dark/intense for a spring/summer mani, its a really great shade if you’re going out clubbing or just want to wear something dark if you’re seeing a horror movie at a movie theater 🙂 To get the full intensity of the color, I recommend 2 to 3 coats. In dark lighting, it has black undertones. So far, it appears to look good for both warm and cool skin tones.
In terms of chipping, It does chip pretty quickly without a top coat. So top coat is a must. I actually like using this shade with a top. I recently used Essie Carry On with a topper from Black Dahlia Lacquer. You can read the full review for the topper here.
Doesn’t this manicure look amazing?
What I like about Essie “Carry On” is the fact that I have HAD this polish for over a YEAR and the formula hasn’t changed. Don’t you hate when the nail polish just starts to separate or dries up and you need a nail polish thinner to revive it? The formula is still like day one, which is simply amazing.
Essie Carry On Vs Wicked
Wicked is also another maroon shade also made by essie but Carry On is a bit more of a brown with slight dark purple undertones while Wicked has more red undertones. Another similar shade is Essie Sole Mate which is Carry On without the brown undertones, and is slightly more bright than Wicked. If you love the purple undertones of Essie Carry on, and want a shade of those purple undertones, try OPI Honk If You Love OPI.
